Chennai: Four men had been arrested for kidnapping the restaurant owner at Triplicane in Chennai.
The restaurant owner, Sajjin, is a close relative of Christu Raj, 43, who runs Raj Chit’s funds in Pudupet.
The defendant in the kidnapping case has lost their money after saving it in the Fund Chit run by Christu Raj.
More than 100 people, most of them traders and others, have deposited money in many schemes run by Christu Raj.
When he failed to return their money to the depositors and avoid them citing Covid-19 and other reasons, around 17 people approached the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office and filed an official complaint to start legal action against Christu Raj.
Based on complaints, the police conducted an investigation with Christu Raj and several others.
On Friday, six people, who lost money at the Chit Fund, were looking for Christu Raj.
They went to the restaurant run by Sajjin on Jalan Raya Triplicane and asked about the existence of Christu Raj.
They forcefully took him to two-wheeled vehicles.
He didn’t return to the restaurant after that.
The restaurant staff told the city police control room which stated that the four men kidnapped Sajjin.
The police tracked Sajjin with the help of his cellphone location.
They narrowed in a house in Pudupet, where Sajjin was detained illegally.
The police team beat four suspects identified as Mohammad Hakeem, 35, Raj, 42, and King Hussain, 53, from Pudupet and Mohammad Sultan, 58, from Colathur.
Triplicane police registered the case and arrested them.
They are returned in judicial custody.
