Rajkot: Four people from Surendranagar were arrested on Monday for trying to extort money from civil contractors.
The defendant also damaged the contractor car near Thangadh in October 1.
Rajesh Karangiya contractor, who lives in Jamnagar, has been assigned the task of putting the gasadh gas pipeline near Thangadh.
On October 1, Karangiya and his friend Mansukh Lagariya went to the site to pay salaries to workers when four were accused of being identified as Sanjay Khachar, Jairaj Mala, Hardeeep Khachar and Mayurshinh Zala reached there.
The four defendants threatened workers to stop their work and ask Karangiya to pay them Rs 5 lakh if he wanted to do work in the area peacefully.
Karangiya refused to pay money after being accused of damaging the car and escaped with RS 50,000 cash that must be paid as a salary.
The police said that after running away, the four defendants also robbed two bikers in the knifepoint.
Based on the complaints of the way, the police submitted a case and arrested four accused.
