Foxconn workers blocked the Chennai-B’luru highway for hours

Chennai: Marathon, 16 hour blockade on the National Highway Chennai-Bengaluru by around 3,000 female workers maker cellular components, Foxconn, ended on Saturday night after several rounds of talks by officials.
However, the protest was damaged by chaos at night, when the other group of workers did not empty the highway, resulting in they were forcibly removed by the police.
The number of unsupiled workers has been ordered because it causes interference and the blockade even after the main protest is drawn in Oragadam.
An incidence of food poisoning and unavailability details about the health status of at least eight female workers, triggered protests near Oragadam in Kancheepuram Regency on Friday night.
Women protest demanded the district government to bring back women who were hospitalized and took action against inch hostels and dormitories, because they had supplied spoiled food to workers.
The women said they were restricted to take home after their question about the incidence of food poisoning and their peer’s health status did not cause a satisfying response from the staff.
In protest, which began at 9:00 on Friday, began to have a negative impact on vehicle traffic on the highway, the Sriperumbudur police rushed to the place and tried to calm them down.
They then transferred vehicles that had stacked up to 5 km on both sides of the city of Sripipumbudur through an alternative route.
When the agitators remained on Saturday, Kancheepuram District collector Arthi ordered the registration of cases against the hostel guards for providing spoiled food for workers, at 1pm.
The collector also made a video call on his cellphone and asked for eight ‘missing girls’ to talk to the agitator.
After this, female workers sustain their protests and dispersed them.
Previously, when the police tried to pursue an agitator and restore the traffic movements, protesters caused slogans against the police.
After this, Inspector General of Police (North Zone) SanthosK Kumar held talks and calming them.
The police said the problem began after more than 100 inmates, who ate food in a big house last Wednesday, complained of being annoyed in nausea and stomach.
They were treated in the nearest government and private hospitals.
Most women live in hospitals for two days and are treated there.
Industrial Cluster Sripipudur from the Kanchipuram district is home to a number of local and multinational companies and employs more than 5 lakh male and female workers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
More than 10,000 small, medium and multinational automotives, chemical plants and cellphones and laptop components operate in the region.
