Paris: French school on Friday paying tribute to a teacher who was beheaded by a radical Islamist last year after he showed the caricature of the Prophet to his class.
Samuel Paty, a historical and geographical teacher, was killed on October 16 last year near his school on the outskirts of Paris northwest by a 18-year-old player who had been committed.
The attacker was shot dead by the police.
The two-day national award includes a minute of silence to be held at school on Friday, with teachers to regulate discussions in class with students around Paty’s memories.
A ceremony will take place on Saturday at the Ministry of Education, where a plaque respects Paty will be launched.
His family will also meet with President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Jean Castex, and a meeting will be organized near the teacher’s school.
The murder led the French authorities to reaffirm the expression rights and secularism of France.
Paty’s name was disclosed on social media after a free class debate in the free expression where he showed the caricature published by the Satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which triggered a massacre of news room by extremists in January 2015.
The authorities have identified paty killers as Abdoultakh Anzorov, a Moscow Chechen refugees born.
Anzorov claimed responsibility in a text accompanied by a photo of the victim found on his phone.
Sixteen people have been charged in this case, most of them for “involvement in terrorist murder” or “criminal associations.” They included five Paty school students, all minors, accused of helping murderers in exchange for payment of 300-350 euros ($ 348- $ 406).
The investigation determined that the attacker knew the teacher’s name and school address, but he did not have the means to identify him.
The suspects also covered the father of students who posted videos on social media calling for mobilization of the teacher.
His daughter has been charged with defamation.
An Islamic activist who helped the man disseminate the message of the virulent naming Paty has also been charged in this case.
