Frank Kameny: Google Doodle Observes American LGBTQ rights activist

NEW DELHI: Google Doodle on Wednesday celebrated Pride Month by honouring American astronomer, veteran, and Homosexual rights activist Dr Frank Kameny.

Kameny is hailed as one of the most prominent characters of their US LGBTQ rights motion.
The Harvard grad, Kameny had been the very first homosexual rights activist to submit an appeal from the US Supreme Court later he had been prohibited from federal job to be homosexual.
Kameny also contested the classification of homosexuality as a psychological illness.
Back in 2009, over 50 years following his dismissal in service, Kameny obtained a formal apology by the US authorities.
Back in June 2010, Washington DC appointed a stretch of 17th Street NW near Dupont Circle”Frank Kameny Way” in his honor.
In its notice, Google Doodle thanked Kameny”for courageously paving the way for years of advancement”.

Who was Frank KamenyFranklin Edward Kameny was born in Queens, New York, on May 21, 1925.
Gifted in the young age, Kameny registered in Queens College to study physics in only 15 years of age.
He saw combat during World War II and on his return into the U.S.
acquired a doctorate at Harvard University.
Kameny & bragging rights activismIn 1957, Kameny approved employment as an astronomer using the Army Map Service, however he had been fired only weeks later according to an executive order effectively alerting members of the LGBTQ community by national employment.
In reaction to his conclusion, Kameny resisted the federal authorities and in 1961 registered the first homosexual rights charm into the U.S.

Denied but undeterred, Kameny stumbled upon a lifelong struggle for equal rights.
Years prior to the Stonewall Riots, he organized among the nation’s first gay rights advocacy groups.
From the early’70s, he successfully contested the American Psychiatric Association’s classification of homosexuality as a psychological illness, also in 1975, the Civil Service Commission ultimately reversed its ban on LGBTQ workers.

Back in 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club in Greenwich Village that triggered a motion that lasted more than 6 days together with protests and clashes.
The activists demanded the institution of areas where LGBT+ individuals might be open about their sexual orientation without fear of arrest.
Pride Day is celebrated on June 28 after the very first pride march was held at new york in 1970.
Communities across the globe often celebrate Pride Day on various dates during June.
