Surat: A fraudster made a bogus email address of Dinesh Navadia, president of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also employed it to send emails to individuals referred to him requesting them to buy online gift cards via a payment-cum-online shopping program.
Navadia stated that the fraudster made a bogus email address on Yahoo Mail and employed it to send emails to 50 individuals.
The email requested the recipients to buy e-gift cards Amazon Purchase program.
The fraudster wrote he (Nevadia) was unable to receive the cards and can be stuck at the hospital using a relative.
The email also said he won’t be in a position to take calls and also the receiver should email him.
“I want to know if it’s possible to receive them right now so that I will provide additional information.
I will refund you until the close of the afternoon,” the email farther read.
“I received calls from at least 50 individuals and I instantly asked officials in SGCCI to broadcast the message which the email address is a bogus one, and the email is delivered by a deceptive individual,” Navadia told TOI.
Navadia was in Gandhinagar on Thursday and may select further actions such as enrolling a police complaint on Friday.
