Gurgaon: A businessman allegedly deceived Rs 1.3 lakh by a fraudster with the pretext of giving it a VIP cellphone number.
The police said the victim received a call from someone who claimed to be a representative of a telecommunications company and offered to provide a VIP number SIM and asked him to make a payment.
“The accusation deceives him to do some promising payments to restore excess amounts,” said a police officer.
Sunil Shah, Owner Surabhi Glass Private Ltd, was in his manufacturing unit in Manesar when he received a call on January 8.
Posing as an airtla representative offered to provide VIP SIM.
After the discussion, the complainant agreed to take the VIP number and the caller sent him an Invoice RS 65,554 with the details of his bank account.
Shah transferres the number of online on the account provided.
After a few minutes, Shah received a call from the same person as saying that some other people had made payments for the previous invoice and he issued a new invoice with other bank accounts details.
The caller asked him to make a convincing new payment to start the previous payment refund process.
Shah made another payment of Rs 65.554.
Even after making a payment, he did not get the promised VIP number and number from which he received the call was turned off.
Realizing he had been cheated; Shah approached the police and filed a complaint.
