Mumbai: acting instantly on the 26-year-old man complaint application, Mumbai police coordinated with the gateway payment and e-commerce company to stop RS 1.1 Lakh payments.
The man’s money was transferred from his credit card to an e-commerce company account by cyber fraudsters to buy expensive phones and other items.
However, within a few cheating hours, the credit card holder approached the Matunga police who asked the e-commerce company to stop sending shopping items and the man returned.
The applicant, who works in a private company, plans to arrange a lunch program for his friends and wants to order a table at the Central Mumbai restaurant.
To get a restaurant number, he searched online and found the number.
Not realizing that it was a fraudster who had mentioned it on the internet using the restaurant name, the complainant calling him and asked to order a table.
The recipient of the call agreed and asked for a complainant to pay some progress.
A police source said that during the chat, the recipient of the call (suspect) lured the applicant and obtained his credit card number, CVV number, expiration date etc.
and asked him to share the OTP sent to the complainant cellphone.
Following instructions, the complainant shared OTP and immediately RS 1.1 Lakh deducted from his credit card.
The complainant then realized he was cheated and approached the police.
Psi Rajabhau Garad and the police team coordinated with nodal officials from the payment gateway where the money was transferred.
The police got the name of the e-commerce company and contacted for details.
They were told that money was used to buy cellphones and other items.
The police asked the company to stop shipping the shopping items.
“The money was returned to the applicant,” said a police source.
The buyer comes from Jharkhand, police said.
