Panaji: Approved the demands of the Private Taxi Association, Minister of Sawant’s Pramod Chair on Wednesday announced that digital meters would be fully installed in the taxi.
Sawant said that the taxi goamiles will also be equipped with digital meters, according to demands by private taxi operators.
In addition, the badge for all taxi drivers will be made mandatory, and will only be issued for those who domiciled 15 years in Goa, Sawant said.
He said this would help overcome the complaints of private taxi operators that taxi drivers of the preamiles application were mainly non-goans, who benefited from the taxi business.
Also, notifications released for private taxi operators because they are not digital meters will be withdrawn after they install the meter, the word cm.
“The taxi association has made a representation of me and various other ministers.
Based on this, we have decided to provide meters with completely free data.
Also, they have a request that the meter must also be installed in a goamile taxi and other taxi owners should not be discriminated against.
Thus , taxi goamiles will also be equipped with meters, “Sawant said.
He said he had convinced the taxi association that the solution to their problems would be found before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, and that the guarantee has now been fulfilled.
“It will be mandatory for all taxi drivers to have badges, and only those who live 15 years will get a badge.
There are many complaints from taxi operators carried out by non-Goan drivers for goamile.
This problem will now be handled.
I assure them that we Will solve their problem, “Sawant said.
He said the cabinet ministers and senior party members held a meeting where the problem of taxi operators was discussed and the solution was found.
“All their problems are resolved by the decision taken,” Sawant said.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that according to the previous setting, the taxi operator must match the meter and then submit a replacement.
But now they will not be asked to submit a replacement, because they can get a free meter at the installation stage itself.
“For them to whom notice has been issued, once they match meters, we will notify the transportation department and get a notification drawn,” Sawant said.
Godinho said that around 2,500 taxi operators have installed digital meters, and 600 others have searched for appointments.
The meter will help track taxis and there are panic buttons also for women’s passenger safety, he said.
“They will get a fully free meter with one-year data and backend services.
For data, they must pay Rs 2,500.
The provisions for the meter have been made in the state budget for RS 34 Crore,” Godinho said.
Minister of Michael Lobo, who has supported the demands of the taxi operator, said there would also be interference by the government in the existing system for private taxi operators to do business at the hotel.
“Our request is that the meter must be installed free and it should not be competitive.
In our hotel industry, there is already a system that applies to taxi operators.
No one has to disturb the system,” Lobo.
