Paris: France saw the “tsunami” Covid-19 infection, with 208,000 new cases reported during the last 24 hours, national and European records, the Minister of Health Olivier Veran told parliamentarians on Wednesday.
France has violated Covid-19 records repeatedly over the past few days, with 180,000 cases the highest Tuesday for a country in Europe, according to data in CovidTracker.fr.
“This means that 24 hours a day, day and night, every second in our country, two French people are positively diagnosed for the Coronavirus,” Veran said.
“We have never experienced such a situation,” he said, describing the increase in cases as “confusing”.
The situation in the hospital was worrying because the Delta variant, said Veran, with Omicron had not had an impact, something he said would eventually happen.
Flu will more complicate things for hospitals, he added.
“As for Omicron, I will no longer talk about waves.
This is a lump, where some waves join in forming a big wave,” he said.
Global Covid-19 infection has reached the highest record for the past seven days, REUTERS data showed on Wednesday, such as the Omicron variant which had just spread quickly, keeping a lot of workers at home and extraordinary testing centers.
