Fret’s parents as e-classes creates a learning gap among students

Bhubaneswar: It is a shameful moment for Manoj Swain, an IT professional, when his four-year-old son’s class teacher, during the online class, complained that the boy jumped over his homework regularly.

The government must consider continuing offline classes for all at school, he added.
Increasing the learning gap among children because the closure of prolonged schools has been a major concern for parents and teachers.
The ability to read and write students, especially at the primary level, has dropped significantly.
“We can feel a decrease in student learning ability as the speed of their writing and the skills to study new subjects have been affected without direct interaction with the teacher.
Many of them are very good in the study before the pandemic struck,” said Mrinalini Banerjee, an English teacher Private here.
The teacher said students could barely concentrate on tutor instructions during the online class.
Younger students often remain busy in other things while class.
“Because of poor internet connectivity, most teachers ask students to turn off video options and save audio.
As a result, they cannot learn as they should,” said Himanshu Sekhar Panda, who taught mathematics in the city school.
“Many class 10 students fail to solve multiplication problems and simple distribution.
It takes a long time to bring this student back to their actual standards,” he added.
With an annual examination in many schools scheduled before the Puja holiday, the teacher is in a hurry to resolve the syllabus.
“The teachers must first clear the doubts of students instead of focusing on completing the syllabus for the exam,” said Silpa Mohanty, a parent.
