Ahmedabad: shows alarming setback in the quality of drinking water, the city registered a significant increase in water diseases.
A total of 59 cases of cholera were reported between January 1 to August 7 this year.
Most of these cases were found in the eastern region of Lambha City, Maninagar and Behrampura.
There were no cases of cholera reported last year.
Data from the AMC health department showed that of the 59 cholera cases, 24 was registered in Lambha while 12 cases were reported from Maninagar, followed by seven in Behrampura and and five cases in PPATVA.
Three cholera cases were reported from Danilimda while two registered cases each at the Amrawadi gate and Ramol-Hathijan.
Vasna, Sabarmati, Isanpur and Bhaipura-Hatkeshwar Ward reported one case respectively.
On July 6, a radius area of 2 km in Kalol, Gandhinagar, was declared ‘hit cholera’ after five cases of cholera found there.
AMC data shows that other water diseases also increase this year.
The city reported 629 cases of jaundice between January 1 and August 7 against 664 cases throughout last year.
A total of 1,035 typhoid cases and 2,076 diarrhea cases were reported in the same period of 1,338 and 2,072 cases throughout last year.
