Pune: The State Irrigation Department on Tuesday said water from the tempar reservoir – filled up to 100% for the first time this rainy season – will be used in priority so that it works to stop seepage from the dam wall can be taken after the rainy season.
Irrigation department officials say 95% of seepage has been plugged in and safe to fill the dam.
The rest of the work cannot be completed before the monsoon due to the covid-induced sidewalk, said an official.
Water will be released during the debit schedule starting next month; Tanghar can accommodate 3.7 thousand cubic feet (TMC) water.
“We have sent a revised proposal for additional funds – to strengthen the long-term dam – to the state government and hope it must be approved next month,” said an official.
The official said the delayed 5% of the work would only be possible after the surface of the water was revealed to the lowest treatment planned on the inside of the wall, up from below.
“The repair plan is ready.
We can implement it once the water level is gradually reduced,” added the official.
A designated expert committee of the state has provided Go-ahead of Jighar to 100% during the rainy season.
After repair work is complete, the irrigation department will often carry out dam wall inspections.
So far this monsoon, the reservoir catchment area has received more than 2.830mm rainfall, the highest among the 25 main dams in Bhima Basin.
The water from the reservoir was released on Monday after touching 100%.
“The ongoing release is needed because the reservoir gets rainwater.
The water released flows to the Khadakwasla reservoir,” another official said.
Meanwhile, the water releasing from Khadakwasla to the Mutha River continued on Tuesday at the level of 9,000 cusecs ahead of the night, due to reduced rainfall activities in the catchment area.
