When the country relieves the limit of Covid-19, a star hotel in the city shakes dust and invades back to business.
Now, many report revival at the occupancy rate, which inches towards pre-covid levels.
Most star hotels said they recorded a residential rate of more than 50% during weekdays compared with an average of 65% during the inspection.
Resorts at ECR, Mamallapuram and Kodaikanal are crowded with activities on weekends.
Ooty is an exception alone because of the restriction of the trip from neighboring Kerala.
Spike on a corporate trip, functions and weddings reflected in the leap at the occupancy rate in the city hotel.
And the pieces for room rates by 30% to 50% sweeten the agreement.
While the rental room at a star hotel in the heart of the city has dipped, high demand during the weekend has caused rates for resorts at ECR and Mamallapuram to shoot up to 25% to 30% compared to pre-covid time.
People also started check-in early on Thursday.
The new trend has now been captured where five-star hotels and four-star offers big discounts while those in the three-star category and below have better occupancy with minimal discounts.
Sandeep Bhatnagar, Senior General Manager of Ramada Plaza Chennai, said the occupancy rate during weekdays has reached the pre-covid level.
“We have a 75% occupancy rate last month, which is equivalent to August 2019.
This is the first time we recorded the occupancy rate that almost matched the pre-covid level after a pandemic,” he said.
The Association of Indian Indian Barriers (SIHRA) Honorary Secretary T Nataarajan said the occupancy rate slowly returned to normal, but a big discount at the room rate was an important factor.
“Most check-in is by people who drive to the city and business travelers flying down from Bengaluru and Hyderabad,” he said.
Driven by the current trend, Tamil Nadu tourism plans to increase promotion in other states.
“Increased occupancy is a sign of a good resurrection.
We will promote our goals in other countries,” Confirmed Tourism Secretary TN B Chandra Mohan.
He added that there were still some delays in the resumption of business trips in a large way because of the increasing use of technology to work.
Stic Travels Chairman Subash Goyal, however, warned that this might be just a temporary resurrection as a person, who had been trapped in the old house, not traveling again.
“The government must announce the resumption of e-visas and international aviation scheduled to revive tourism,” he said.
