Hyderabad: Inspired by the work carried out by his daughter, a 55-year-old businessman Manoj Raheja, joined in helping families affected by the second wave of Covid-19.
Together, they have helped around 600 patients so far by regulating oxygen cylinders, concentrators, ICU beds, blood etc.
They even arranged plasma donors in various hospitals, including getting 17 donors within two hours for patients from Bokaro.
Duo has now moved to regulate funds for critical patients.
“During the second wave peak, we work all the time, make calls and connect those in need with the necessary speakers.
Whatever requirements come to us, we fulfill it.
At one point, we were given 40 concentrators by donors that we distributed freely based on rotation, “said Manoj Raheja.
His daughter, Sanjana Raheja, has volunteered with some of his previous colleagues.
In fact, during that time they received a dangerous call from a 17-year-old girl from the Bhagalpur district.
“He tried his best to save his father who suffered from liver cirrhosis and needed a liver transplant that would cost Rs 27 lakh.
We contacted the Sonu Sood Foundation through our reference and assured them to fund the part of the treatment.
The remaining amount is governed by us through the family, My daughter’s friend and colleague, “Father said.
The recipient said that the duo came to him as a blessing, because the crowd’s funding initiative began earlier failed to collect money.
“At that time we were ready to sell our house for my father’s care.
But no one was ready to buy it because of the Covid-19 scenario.
No one wants to give us a loan on interest.
That’s when I started looking for NGOs and finally connected with Sanjana and Uncle Manoj, “said Shanu Kumari.
His father’s surgery was finished, and he now recovered in an apartment governed by volunteers.
Meanwhile, the father-child couple has two liver transplant patients again in the pipe, which is waiting for funds.
“When the second wave was reduced, we did not get many calls from Covid-19 patients.
But because our number has been circulated among many people, other patients – including those who need transplants – reach us.
We intend to help as much as possible people.
Being my desire, “said Manoj Raheja.
