Gading elephant seized at Lakhimpur, 3 detained

Dibrugarh: The police team led by the Dhakuakhana Sub-Division (SDPO) police officer, Soumar Jyoti Bhuyan confiscated two elephant gadts from a house in Bahir Kapsan Village in the Lakhimpur District on Sunday.
The owner of the house, Monu Doley and two alleged branches, Bolin Kalita and Yein binod, who were found to have ivory ivory, have been detained by the police.
“Based on specific information, we carried out attacks and recovered two elephant iles from the house in Bahir Kapsan Village.
One of the ivory of 19.2 inches while the other length is 13.5 inches.
Both of them have a combined weight of 4.790 kg.
Three people, including homeowners , has been detained, “said SDO.
Police suspect that ivory elephants are extracted from boiled elephants in the state forest area to smuggle Southeast Asian countries through Bangladesh.
Hunters usually target the illegal market in China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and several other Asian countries where Ivory demand is high.
India is home to 27,300 of 50,000 strange Asian elephants found throughout the world and every year, a number of elephants were killed by their chicken hunters who took very high prices in the international market.
