New Delhi: Reducing a road accident, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday has a fixed driving hours for commercial truck drivers similar to pilots, as well as sleep detection sensors on commercial vehicles.
In a series of tweets, road transportation and ministers of Highways said driving hours for truck drivers must be repaired similar to pilots’ to reduce fatigue-induced road accidents.
“It has directed officers to work on policies to include on-board sleep detection sensors in commercial vehicles, equivalent to European standards,” he said in a tweet.
The minister said he would also write a letter to the regency ministers and collectors to ensure that the district road committee meeting was held regularly.
Earlier on Tuesday, Gadkari attended an introductory meeting of new members nominated to the National Road Safety Council (NRSC).
The minister also said he had now directed the council to meet every two months and share their updates.
According to an official statement, during the meeting, members made various important suggestions in the field of improving road safety.
Gadkari suggests all members to work in various fields of road safety so that more lives can be saved on the road.
He also directed ministry officials to work in close coordination with NRSC members and implement their suggestions on priority, the statement said.
The achievements made in the road safety area will be taken through a monthly magazine, he said.
NRSC was only formed by the Ministry on July 28, 2021 and the meeting was attended by all 13 unofficial non-optted individual members.
The Minister of State for Road Transportation and Jalan Raya General V K Singh also attended a meeting together with a senior ministry official.
