Atlantic City: Tire New Jersey Hearlong Coronavirus-Inspired in Smoking at Casino Atlantic City will end weeks, just in time for the fourth holiday of July.
Governor Phil Murphy said on Wednesday that the command he signed to end the public health emergency which contained the provisions of the “sunset” that followed the ban on smoking within 30 days, namely Sunday.
While gamblers who admit will be free to turn on again on Sunday, the Democrat Governor shows that he will look good at the lawyer measuring that considering the end of smoking permanently at the New Jersey casino.
“I will be very constructive about that,” he said at the Coronavirus briefing, stopped from saying he would sign law.
The governor’s statement came two hours after dozens of casino workers and anti-smoking advocates rose on the Atlantic city road to call for a permanent smoking ban.
The casino was released from the law of the state that prohibits the most indoor smoking, while the Atlantic city law limits smoking to no more than 25% of the casino floor.
New Jersey has even forbidden smoking on the beach and public park, which is not lost on many casino workers rally.
“How are you not allowed to smoke on the beach or our boardwalk, but you are allowed to smoke at my table where I can’t leave?” Asked Nicole Vitola, a table game dealer in Borgata.
“What I want is true that every other worker in New Jersey accepts.” Janice Green, a dealer in Tropicana, has worked at Casino Atlantic City for 40 years.
“Being in business so long, I suffer from lung disease,” he said.
“I suffer from asthma because it is under control now, but if you bring back smoking again, I will return to the inhaler, and I don’t want it.” Murphy ordered the Atlantic City casino to close on March 2020 during a pandemic, and when they reopened 3 1/2 months later, smoking was prohibited as a measure of public health.
“Why is this the only place in New Jersey you can smoke?” Alvaro Dente said, the casino floor supervisor in Tropicana.
“The bar and restaurant don’t allow it.
And the casino doesn’t lose money.” Onjewel Smith American group for Nonsmokers rights say casino workers at the biggest risk of smoking “are mostly black and chocolate women, frontline workers.
They are risky people every day.” The New Jersey Casino Association, trade group, opposed permanent smoking prohibitions, said it could cause long-term financial implications.
“Really nonsmoking will put Casino City Atlantic at competitive losses with other closest casinos that allow smoking,” the group said in a statement.
Such a ban will lead to fewer customers, fewer casino work and lower tax revenues, he said.
Casinos say they have spent a large enough amount of cleaning systems and air filtering to protect customers.
And a large number of gamblers say that smoking is an integral part of their gambling experience.
But Tom Nonsmoker pillows, who visit the casino once or twice a week, have loved the non-smoking atmosphere over the past year.
“You can feel the difference,” said the pillow, who lives in Galloway, right outside Atlantic City.
“The stale smell, smoky – you don’t have it anymore.
It’s time for smoking.”
