Coimbatore: A gang of three members was arrested on Thursday night because of cheating some of the 5 lakh by selling fake gold ingots at Kinathukadavu Bus Stand on January 20.
Kinathukadavu police identified 44-year-old defendant S Nizam aka Chinnabava and 34 years old K Hussain Ali, both Realtors from Pollenchi, and 53 years old V Krishnamurthy, daily wage workers from Animalai Muthalipallayam, to sell gold ingots, which they said were excavated during sand mining illegally.
“One of them called Aladdin, who also had a lathe workshop, around 11am on January 20, introduced himself as an illegal sand miner and informed that there was a gold ingot, which he found during sand mining, for sale.
He told Aladdin that While ingot was worth 15 lakh, he was ready to sell it at 10 lakh and asked for a broker to wait for him to the Kinathukadavu bus holder at 9pm on the day, “the officer said.
Next, Aladdin, along with his wife Neshila, went to the bus stand as scheduled and saw three people there.
“One of them walked to them and demanded 10 lakh to hand over gold ingots.
The couple managed to seal the agreement for 5 lakh and received the ingot that weighed almost 2 kg,” the officer said.
On Thursday, he said, the couple approached some gold assessors and checked out ingots, just to realize it was a gold-plated metal.
Immediately, the couple approached the Police Inspector Kinathukadavu Senthilkumar, who registered the case and formed a special team to catch the trio.
Sub-inspector of J Arul Prakash and the team arrested his three from the Polachi-Aliyar Road on the same night.
“They are close friends and face big losses in their business.
So they decided to make money fast.
Hussain Ali gave Nizam’s cellphone number to Nizam, while Krishnamurthy contacted an entrepreneur and crashed an agreement.
They planned to escape to Kerala,” the officer said .
The police have recovered 5 lakh from the three men, which were produced before judge justice on Friday morning and nested in prison.
