Chandrapur: The branch of local crime (LCB) has broken a gang and trading of babies born, and has arrested six people, including five women.
The police have also saved a 10-day-old baby who was ‘sold’ to a woman in Chandrapur for RS2.75 lakh.
The baby was delivered at Chandrapur Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on January 13.
Meena Choudhari’s neighbor is usually visiting her every day in the hospital because of treatment.
The mother and child were dismissed from the hospital on January 15.
Choudhari, who with the mother at the time of dismissal, took her mother and child to Lotus Hotel in Lohara Village on the outskirts of the city, instead of taking her back home.
There, Choudhari cheated the mother by claiming that the latter was HIV positive and that her child would also be infected by deadly disease if she save it.
Claiming to know NGOs in Nagpur who will take care of the child, Choudhari cheats the mother to give her baby.
There, he handed the child to three women from Nagpur.
Three days later, Meena Choudhari was the same approaching the mother and gave her RS49,000, claiming that those who took care of their children had given money.
The mother was suspicious and tried to see her child, but Choudhari refused, giving a dodging answer.
The depressed mother approached the supervisor of the additional police atul Kulkarni and narrated her tribulation.
A violation under the relevant legal section is registered in RAM Nagar Police Station and LCB In-Charge Police Inspector (PI) Ballasaheb Khade is assigned to the probe.
Pi Khade said the LCB team first arrested Choudhari, who revealed that he had surrendered the child to Vanita Kawade, Puja Sahu and Shaolin Modan in Nagpur, with the help of his partner Jabir Sheikh and his aide, for RS2.75 Lakh.
The police arrested Sheikh and Sayyad and the team led by Sandeep Kapde’s sub-inspector and Jitendra Bobade went to Nagpur.
The investigation revealed that two of the three women from Nagpur worked as nursing staff at the hospital there.
Three accused the woman was arrested and taken to Chandrapur.
Trio said he had traded a baby to one SIMTA Malekar in Chandrapur.
The police team safely saved the child from Mankar and claimed to be in Chandrapur GMCH for medical examinations.
