GURUGRAM: The Palwal police team probing the racket where people were cheated with cloned fingerprints and Aadhaar cards raided a call centre that was being run by the same gang in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Thursday.
A number of documents concerning the people they intended to target was found at the call centre.
The gang would cheat people on the pretext of facilitating a loan, renewing insurance policies, installing cellphone towers and job offers.
Police said the call centre had been running for the past one year and the gang had spread its tentacles across the country, including Gurugram.
Telecallers hired by the gang would lure people with lucrative offers and persuade them to make advance payments.
Rohit Tyagi, the mastermind of the racket, was arrested in Noida in September last year in a similar case of fraud.
He secured bail after three months.
According to police, Tyagi got the idea of cloning Aadhaar cards and fingerprints from YouTube videos.
He started hunting for registry papers in Noida, but failed.
Tyagi then moved to Palwal, where he managed to source a large number of property documents from the tehsil office.
Almost all the gang members — five of them have been arrested — had an experience of working at a call centre.
The police suspect they might have committed frauds in other parts of the country too and are trying to reach out to law enforcement agencies in other cities to unearth information about the gang.
“The accused are in police custody.
We are trying to get details about the gang and the frauds committed by them,” said Deepak Gehlawat, the Palwal SP.
