BEGA BAZAR (WB): The Ganga River enters around 300 meters, eroding the bank in the district of Malda Bengal Barat, devouring homes, fields and mango gardens, officials said on Sundays.
Balutola in the Manikchak block is the most affected area by erosion, which occurs above a 1 kilometer stretch, they said.
More than 400 families have been displaced so far this year when the river devoured more than half of Balutola and Balutola villages, local residents claimed.
The village residents score escape from this area every day, they said.
Block Development Officer Joy Ahmed said that he had visited affected areas.
“Gram Panchayat has been allocated tarpaulin.
The whole situation is being monitored,” he said.
State Irrigation Minister Sabina Yasmin also visited the area recently.
The front front delegation also went to the area and talked to the villagers.
