Nagpur: Sex workers in the Red-Light City area, Ganga Jamuna, are pushed to the corner for their livelihoods because of their trade ban by city police, has begun to ask clients on cellphones.
Meanwhile, the police plan to install CCTV cameras for supervision to stop illegal trade.
The use of cellphones by sex workers has arrived ahead after the client was arrested by the Lakadganj police team who had visited one of the brothels.
The client was learned to be asked with a sex worker by telephone before visiting it.
The problem has turned ugly after the customer shares a bitter experience with sex workers he has visited being extended by Rs 10,000 by an officer of the Lakadganjan police station after being dragged out of his room.
He also claimed to have made payments through Paytm.
Following the intervention of CP Amitesh Kumar, the investigation was carried out under the supervision of Zonal DCP Rajmane.
It has discussed that Paytm’s payment was carried out to a man in Chandrapur by his brother for family expenses.
Prima Facie, has no connection with bribes for any police personnel.
Senior Inspector Parag Pote from the Lakadganjan police station said the in-depth investigation of the accusation was taking place.
“In the near future, the Ganga Jamuna region will be under the supervision of CCTV to put aside allegations,” he said.
Activist, Advocate Nihal Singh, said the Supreme Court in his latest order in the case of Buddhadev vs.
Paschim, has stated that there is the right to be dignified in every call while deciding sex problems related to sex workers.
“The police entering the house of sex workers to drag customers out is a bright violation of the right to dignity, privacy rights which are also related to the right to live,” he said.
Singh also raised questions about the interests of the police who demanded the objection to ask, even if it was on the cellphone.
“Please for sex work as a livelihood is as not a crime projected by the police,” he said, adding, the APEX court also separated the police from a relief work, including the distribution of dry rations.
