Coimbatore: Residents of Kallukuzhi Street at Sundarapuram have urged City Corporation to remove garbage, including medical waste, thrown on the road.
Outsiders and residents throw garbage because there is no adequate trash can in the area.
When collecting garbage doors to the door are not done regularly, people justify throwing garbage on the road.
Some people burn pile of rubbish, which leads to respiratory problems, said P Ganesan, a resident.
“Children and elderners will be affected if they are exposed to pollution for a long time,” he said.
“Dump trash doesn’t just make a scene, but also pose a threat to health.
I raised this problem many times with officials, but there was no action taken to check the threat,” said harpharan, another resident.
Many people avoid the road and prefer to use other ways because of the stench of garbage.
“Corporate officials must form a team involving volunteers and residents to prevent garbage disposal.
Those who dispose of waste here repeatedly must be identified and punished,” said G Lakshmipathi, another resident.
A Civic body health official promised to take appropriate actions in a few days.
