Mexico City: Gas leaks that clearly triggered a blast that mostly destroyed a Mexico City apartment building on Monday killing one person and injured at least 29, the mayor said.
The explosion occurred in the middle of the morning on the south side of the capital, leaving a broken facade, without windows and interior walls which were destroyed in the building 63 units.
Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum checked the scene.
Borough Benito Juarez said later in a statement that 11 of the injured had been taken to the hospital.
One of them then died, said the mayor.
About 300 people were evacuated from neighboring buildings as precautions.
The office and experts of the Mexican City prosecutor from other agents are investigating to determine the source of gas leaks.
