Gasoline, diesel sales fall in January as an omicron spread

New Delhi: Petrol and Indian Diesel Sales fell in the first two weeks of January because the third wave of pandemics began to bite the economy as reflected in mobility at work and airline traffic.
Diesel sales, which accounted for around 40 percent of the overall fuel consumption of India and mirror industry activities, fell 14.1 percent to 2.47 million tons for 1-15 January compared to the same period in December and 4.99 percent of Last year from last year, the initial data from state fuel retailers showed.
Diesel sales fell by almost 8 percent during the period January 2020.
The rapid spread of the Omicron Coronavirus variant has caused the imposition of local restrictions in several parts of the country, hurting the truck movement.
Gasoline sales during January 1-15 at 9,64,380 tons 13.81 percent lower than the first two weeks of December and 2.82 percent lower than last year’s period, data shows.
But it was 5.66 percent higher than the sale of January 2020 and continued to live above the pre-Covid-19 level because people continued to choose to use private vehicles on security transportation for security reasons.
Jet fuel sales fell 13 percent to 2,08,980 tons during the first half of January compared to last month but 7.34 percent higher year-to-year.
It was 38.2 percent lower than the January 2020.
Cooking LPG gas sales rose 4.85 percent month to month and 9.47 percent year-on-year to 1.28 million tons.
This is 15.25 percent higher than January 2020, data shows.
LPG sales are higher behind the free cylinder distributed by the government to reduce the fall of covid in the poor.
