Ahmedabad: Sales of petroleum products are beaten in 2020-21 with commuter mobility reduced due to locking and subsequent restrictions on trips and curfews to check the spread of Covid-19.
Per capita sales from motorbike spirit (MS) or gasoline in Gujarat decreased by 8kg (around 10 liters) in the last financial year, showing temporary data compiled by cells of Petroleum Planning and Analysis (PPAC) from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Natural Gas Union.
Per capita gasoline sales for the country became 26.2kg in fiscal 2020-21 of 34.2kg in 2019-20, according to PPAC reports.
Sales include gasoline sold for passenger cars, taxis, two and three wheels.
In the absolute term, gasoline sales reached 18.60 lakh tons on April 2020 2021, which showed a decrease of 10% more than 20.66 lakh tons of gasoline for sale in April 2019-March 2020.
Thanks to the pandemic-induced locker plus travel limit And most people work from home, overall gasoline consumption has dropped, said industrial players.
“Most people continue to work outside the home, while schools and educational institutions are closed too, because the overall movement of vehicles decreases by 2020-21.
Therefore, fuel consumption is expected to be affected.
In 2020-21, gasoline consumption decreases with an estimated 8% , “said Dhimant Ghelani, Secretary General, the Federation of the Association of Petroleum Gujarat Dealer (FGPDA).
“The demand situation is slightly increased at this time but the overall decline in sales continues to remain as an educational institution has not fully continued operation and outstation travel has not taken it in full swing,” Ghelani added.
Gasoline prices reached Rs 98.04 per liter on Monday while the cost of diesel Rs 95.49 per liter.
Meanwhile, high-speed diesel (HSD) sales also fell 9% to 50.89 lakh tons at 2020-21 from 56.07 lakh tons in the previous fiscal.
Per capita sales down to 71.7kg at FY21 from 92.9kg at FY20, PPAC reports a further state.
HSD is used as a fuel in commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, private vehicles and pumps in the agricultural sector.
