Chicago: General Electric Co (GE) has asked US-based workers to get Covid-19 shots or look for medical or religious accommodations on December 8 to comply with President Joe Biden’s executive orders.
As part of the effort to control the pandemic, which has killed more than 700,000 Americans, Biden, a Democrat, last month signed a command that requires a federal contractor to mandate Covid-19 shots for employees and get it vaccinated at 8.
As a federal contractor, GE said It obeys executive orders.
The company renewed its vaccine policy for more than 50,000 US workers last week.
Boston-based conglomerate is the latest US employer to impose such requirements, which has triggered a political battle.
While supporters of the vaccine mandate saw them as needed to attract a country from a pandemic of almost two years, critics call them unconstitutional and authoritarian.
The White House said vaccine requirements have pushed the level of Covid-19 vaccination by 20 percentage points.
The size has attracted sharp reactions from several Republicans, with Gubas Texas Greg Abbott last week forbid the covid-19 vaccine mandate by private entities, including private entrepreneurs.
Union Pacific Corp.
and the three unions have demanded each other on vaccine mandate.
