NEW DELHI: Water distribution to different parts of Delhi could be impacted from Sunday because of generation being shrouded in 3 water treatment plants due to high development of algae and elevated amounts of ammonia at the Yamuna.
In an advisory issued Saturday, Delhi Jal Board said,”Production was discharged out of water treatment plants in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla and water distribution will likely be impacted at the daytime and evening of Sunday (June 20) until the ozone level in the Yamuna declines to damaging limit” DJB provides 935 MGD (million gallons per day) water into the city and approximately 45 MGD manufacturing –20% manufacturing ability of Wazirabad and Chandrawal WTP–has been affected as a result of the pollution from the lake Saturday evening, said officials.
“The places which will likely be influenced include Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital and adjacent places, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar and adjacent regions; Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj and NDMC regions.
The areas likely to be affected in west Delhi are new and old Rajinder Nagar, East and West Patel Nagar, Baljeet Nagar, Prem Nagar, Punjabi Bagh and adjacent areas.
At the southern area of the town, the set of potential affected regions comprises Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Tughlaqabad, Sangam Vihar, Moolchand, South Extension, Greater Kailash and adjacent places.
Other town areas which might face low pressure water distribution comprise Prahladpur and adjacent regions; Ramleela Ground, Delhi Gate, Subhash Park, Model Town, Gulabi Bagh, Jahangirpuri and portions of Cantonment regions,” said that the DJB advisory.
An senior DJB official stated that on Saturday day, 20 percent to 25% surgeries at Chandrawal and Wazirabad crops had been inoculated.
“Ammonia levels are present in treatable limitations but algae contamination is causing the major issue.
