CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday gave formal consent to the production of Malerkotla since the nation’s 23rd district.
Chief minister Amarinder Singh had declared the introduction of a new district of Malerkotla, dividing the country’s Muslim-majority city from Sangrur district, even on the event of Eid-ul-Fitr on May 14.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Singhwas held on Wednesday.
The cabinet also gave its own go-ahead for updating Amargarh, which has been a part of this Malerkotla sub-division, as sub-division or tehsil.
Malerkotla district will consist of 3 sub-divisions –Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh and Amargarh, in accordance with an official announcement.
A number of 192 villages will be contained at Malerkotla district.
The cupboard resisted the main minister to accept the development of new articles for workplaces of 12 branches including authorities, rural growth and panchayats, social justice and minorities, agriculture, farmer welfare, social security and women and child development, health, education (secondary and primary ).
