German beer, Greece resin came to Chennai for GI tags

Chennai: The German beer (Muncier Bier), Blue Cheese Italy (Gorgonzola), resin plant (Chios Mastiha) of Greece and various seed cones (Zatecky Chmel) of the Czech Republic is among 51 new products for the geographical indication where Tag (GI) issued by Registry Chennai.
Four Western countries have filed an application with the Office of Chennai for GI tag for 12 products.
Unlike previous years when the GI Registry will publish a list of the newly certified products one by one, this year, has chosen to publish all 51 on its website.
And the presence of at least a dozen products from the four Western countries points to a new trend.
Registration is waiting for some products since 2018, and now, instead of issuing certificates to the applicants are concerned, GI Top Brass has called on the prime minister of each country and submit them to the certificate of ‘personal’.
With this list, 421 products ranging from handicrafts to agriculture has been given a GI tag in India.
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka share the top position with respectively 43 GI products.
P Sanjai Gandhi, Lawyer GI and Nodal Officers appointed for Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, has obtained GI tag for the 25 products so far.
In the latest list, five, four applications submitted by Sanjai Gandhi.
Tamil Nadu has filed at least a dozen more applications for products such as Mango Salem, Madurai Marikozhundu, Statue Myladi (Kanyakumari) and Manappaarai Murukku.
They are all pending.
In the latest list, nine products, including hand block printing Banaras, Mirzapur Pital Saree Bartan and Manu are from Uttar Pradesh.
State of Uttarakhand has six products, including Kumaon oil Chyura, craft ring, and Thulma, to his credit.
Tamil Nadu has earned GI tag for five products – Clove Kanyakumari, Thanjavur Netti work, Karuppur Kalamkari paintings and wood carvings Arumbavur and Kallakurichi.
Kuttiattoor Mango Chilli Kuta and Edayur are in the list along with Orange and Hathei Tamenglong Manipur chilli.
Himachal Pradesh got the GI tag for socks and gloves Knitted Lahuli and Chamba chappal.
Telia Rumalia Telangana, Sojar Mehndi from Rajasthan, Art Manjusha Bihar, Jharkhand Sohrai-Khovar Painting, Mizo Ginger from Mizoram, Dalle Khursani of Sikkim, Dragon cucumber Nagalandia, Harmal Pithora Chilli from Assam and Gujarat is also a newcomer to the GI club.
Getting a GI recognition is a complex process.
Once applied, the report on the ‘Formalities’ issued within a month, after verification of the claim.
In the case of disability, restored giving the applicant time up to a month to fix it and send it back.
The second stage involves ‘consultative meeting’ very important, where the body of seven members headed by the registrant GIs called the applicant or lawyer concerned to make a presentation power-point issues such as the origin of history, uniqueness, production methods, specifications, descriptions and production areas.
If satisfied, the committee forward the application to the journal for publication.
If there is no public outcry received within a maximum of four months of publication, the product was granted GI status.
If it can be rejected in case of objection.
The committee can make delayed and seek further clarification in the period.
All this consumes about one year, say lawyers GI.
