Ghaziabad: Man held for pouring ‘acid’ on sister-in-law

GHAZIABAD: A man was arrested on Monday for allegedly pouring an acid-like substance on his sister-in-law while the teenager was asleep next to her mother.
The accused has been identified as Lakhan Yadav (25) and the 17-year-old girl is a Class 11 student at a private school, police said.
Yadav allegedly wanted to have a relationship with the girl but she had stopped his advances several times.
A senior police officer said Yadav is a clerk at a garment factory in Ghaziabad and he got married six years ago.
Neeraj Singh, SHO, Nandgram, said Yadav used to harass the child almost regularly and the family knew about it.
“On June 3, Yadav threw some liquid substance, possibly acid, at the girl while she was sleeping.
He left the room after that and reappeared only once the girl started crying out for help,” he said.
“Yadav helped the family members take the girl to a hospital and said he knew nothing about the attack.
But the child’s father grew suspicious, as he knew about Yadav’s advances towards her,” the SHO said.
A police officer said Yadav was detained on Sunday and during questioning, he confessed to the crime.
The child is still in the hospital.
An FIR has been registered against Yadav under Section 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid etc) of the Indian Penal Code.
He was produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody.
