Ghaziabad: Running from the pillar to the post to find a dignified way to cremate your died pet can soon become part of the past, at least in Ghaziabad.
Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) plans to build the city’s first electricity pet crematorium in the Nandigram area.
Pet crematoriums will be built at the cost of Rs 10 Lakh and the tender for this project has floated, officials said.
The idea of having the crematorium for pets is discussed at the meeting, following the demands of pet lovers who want dedicated pet crematoriums in the city.
GMC feels that this can also solve the problem of disposal of wild animals.
“More than 700 dogs are registered with GMC, while the actual number of pet dogs in the city may be more than two lakh, so there are demands from the population, especially pet lovers for special crematoriums for animals,” said Mahendra Singh Tanwar, Municipal Commissioner.
“After many deliberations, we have decided to arrange one such crematorium in the Nandigram region with an estimated cost around Rs 10 lakh.
This will be an electrical crematorium and the tender process to be initiated,” he added.
GMC has issued the first tender a few months ago, but only one company showed interest in it.
“According to the rules, we have to cancel the first tender and the second has floated and this time we hope that more than one company will show interest in it,” Tanwar said.
While the project in his new phase, officials said that tentative costs for cremation would be RS 300.
Anuj Singh, Animal and Social Welfare Officers GMC, said, “In addition to pet dogs, the disposal of wild animals that died is also a problem.
With GMC and without The presence of crematoriums, animals can be seen rot in the water channel or on the roadside, which is a health hazard for residents.
