Tiruvannamalai: 10-year-old girl died after consuming Tandoori Biryani chicken at a restaurant in Arni in the Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu on Thursday night.
More than 20 others, including three family members, who complained about nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, were treated at the Arni General Hospital for care.
Officials said restaurant staff had prepared Biryani using stale chicken and contaminated and served food to consumers.
Police said several people who consumed Tandoori Biryani chicken at Seven Star Biryani Hotel in the city of Arni on Thursday night, complained of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
They were treated at the GH of the Arni government.
Meanwhile, a family of four people including a 10-year-old girl from Lakshmi Nagar in the city, who also consumed Biryani in the same restaurant, treated in GH complained of the same complications.
The girl, who was identified as Lokshana, died despite medical attention.
The girl’s death triggered tensions in the city.
At present, 21 people undergo treatment at GH after several people are repatriated.
A team of income and police officials visited the restaurant and asked the initial question.
Food security officials take food samples.
They found 15kg stale chicken and contaminated.
They grab the meat and seal restaurants.
The police held the owner of the owner of Basha level and cooked the team for questions.
Officials have launched the drive to check the quality of food served in all non-vegetarian restaurants and restaurants in the city.
