Tiruvannamalai: A 10-year-old girl died after consuming chicken plate and biryani at a restaurant in Arni in the Tiruvannamalai district on Friday.
More than 20 others, including three family members, who complained about nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea had been treated at the Arni Government General Hospital.
Officials suspect that restaurant workers can use stale chicken and contaminated to prepare food.
Lokshani from Lakshmi Nagar in Arni, who underwent treatment at a private hospital called Arni GH for further treatment.
However, the doctor at GH said he was ‘taken dead’.
Restaurant owners and cooks have been arrested.
Police said several people, who consumed Tandoori Chicken, Chilli Chicken and Biryani at Seven Star Biryani Hotel in Arni on Wednesday night, complained of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea the next day.
They were accepted at private hospitals and GH Arni government.
Lokshani’s parents and brothers are among those who undergo treatment at GH after having the same health complaints.
The girl’s death triggered tensions in the city.
The police’s income and police officers led by RDO Kavitha and Arni DSP Niptiats visited the restaurant and conducted a preliminary investigation.
A team led by Ramakrishnan, indicated officer of the district (food security), checked the restaurant and took rice, water, oil and chicken meat samples.
“We cannot find samples of food served on Wednesday.
Therefore, we take samples of raw materials such as rice, water, oil and meat available on Friday.
The cold storage system in the restaurant does not maintain the temperature needed to preserve meat.
The restaurant license is suspended and sealed, “said Ramakrishnan.
Food security officials say sample test results, which will be available in one or two days, will reveal more information about bacterial contamination if any.
“The meat used to prepare food can be stale.
We need to consider several factors (about the girl’s death).
We need to check bacterial contamination and how far the virulence is set.

The doctors in GH have obtained a fecal culture in patients.
The girl was taken dead to GH.
The post-mortem report and culture of feces of patients who undergo treatment will provide more insight, “Ramakrishnan said.
