Give assistance to children on the streets without delay: SC to DMS

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rebuked the state and the Union (UTS) region because it did not make enough to identify and rehabilitate children who were forced to live on the streets.
The court reminded them that it was their duty to provide food and place to live for them.
Judge L Judge Nageswara Rao and BV Nagaratha directed the state government and UT not to treat this problem as a “normal problem” and tried hard to reach the children.
In accordance with the National Commission for Protection of Children’s Rights, there are more than 10 lakh street children but countries have so far identified only 9,945 in accordance with the data provided by NCPCR.
Citing the Coldweather Condition, SC Bench directs district judges to involve NGOs, voluntary organizations and district legal service authorities to identify children on the road “without further delays”.
Referring to data collected by NCPCR based on information provided by the State, Bench said most countries reported zero or gave a number one digit of street children in their country.
“Children of hunger on the streets and they cannot wait.
The situation will not improve without government intervention.
I assigned them to appear,” said SC.
Additional lawyers General KM Natraj and Advocates Swarupama Chaturvedi, appeared for NCPCR, said many countries were not serious about this problem despite the direction of SC.
They said 21state participated in a virtual meeting carried out by NCPCR.
“NCPCR observed that some of them had initiated the process of rescuing these children.
However, several countries seeks to rehabilitate them,” said Commission.
The bench directs all states and UTS to participate in identification meetings and frame rehabilitation policies for street children.
Times View: This is the duties and responsibilities of socially conscious people to care for their street children who are vulnerable to various forms of exploitation.
It is very sad that this responsibility is not carried out by the state government and UTS.
The APEX court has intervened correctly.
Rehabilitation policy, under the AEGIS NCPCR, must be formulated earlierly.
