New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the Delhi government to inform the drive of the Covid-19 vaccination that was happening in prison here in existing prisoners and newcomers.
The High Court asked the government to submit a written statement highlighting the planned authorities to give the second dose of the prisoners.
The chairman of the Judge DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh gave the time to the Delhi government to submit a fresh written statement to highlight how the vaccination program occurred in prison in those who had lodged in prison, both invitations or prisoners, and they were the newcomers there.
It also asked the government to highlight how periodic health checks were carried out in prisoners and registered problems for further hearing on September 16.
The High Court heard two requests seeking vaccination of all prisoners or conditional liberation.
They surrendered to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection in prison.
The court observed that all those filed in prison would get a vaccine and those who came to prison from outside would also be vaccinated.
During hearing, Delhi’s Government’s position advisor Santosh Kumar Tripathi said he would submit a report on fresh status on the number of prisoners who had been vaccinated in prison.
The court has a notification released in February about the petition and asked the Delhi government to take action against the problem of “immediately”.
One of the two petitions has been transferred by a 63-year-old woman convict serving a lifelong imprisonment in a murder case.
He has been looking for that all prisoners, especially those above 60 years out with guarantees, parole or vaccinated leave before their surrender.
In his request, it was put forward through Advocates Amit Sahni, the woman was also looking for vaccination of prison staff, security people and all prisoners in the national capital.
A similar tree has also been transferred by four lawyers – Advocates Abhilasha Shawat, Prabhash, Kartik Malhotra and Manav Narula – Looking for instructions to the Delhi Government to “regulate and facilitate Covid-19 vaccination to all prisoners coming out on guarantees”.
Both petitions have claimed that on January 14, there were 16,396 inmates in three prisons in Delhi who jointly have a capacity of 10,026 and therefore, there is no enough space to maintain social distance.
Applicants have argued that with more detainees scheduled to give up in the coming days, there may be enough space to keep them in quarantine for 14 days and therefore, it is necessary to vaccinate the prisoners who come out with collateral, parole or Leave the previous stay they returned to prison.
