New Delhi: Just like the millions of mobile subscribers across the country, it is the turn of the telecommunications industry to be on the receiving end of a network disruption, streaming erratic, poor audio and video freezing.
The fifth edition of the Indian Mobile Congress – the largest telecom industry event in the country – see the online event, organized by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), opens on notes uneasy because there are some examples of technical malfunction and streaming impaired.
3 day event, which has some of the biggest names in the telecommunication industry of India as speakers, including chairman of Reliance Mukesh Ambani, Head of Airtel’s Sunil Mittal, Idea Vodafone Co-promoter Kumar Mangalam Birla and Telecommunications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, ironically has a ‘connectivity for the next decade’ as Yes friend.
There was even a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the beginning of the inaugural session that started about half an hour late, perhaps due to the technological challenges of the last minute, the delay which is surprising considering most speaker notes previously recorded.
Vaishnaw – the entry into the Union Cabinet coincided with a massive reform of control and a good feeling for the telecommunications industry – also spoke about the need to improve the quality of service to mobile consumers.
“While the deployment of services (telecommunications) has really increased, the quality of service is a problem.
I would ask all delegates, participants in the IMC, to produce solutions to improve service quality,” said Vaishnaw in his address.
Even the video address telecom secretary K Rajaraman abruptly cut short in a few minutes into his address as the address Devusinh Jesingbhai Junior Telecommunications Minister Chauhan played without a formal introduction.
Questions sent to COAI on this issue remains unresolved.
