Global experience to form Revamp of Delhi Roads

New Delhi: With the Delhi government itself works to change more than 540 km from national capital roads in accordance with the best global practices, an online workshop on Tuesday seeing experts from all over the world sharing the experience of road transformation from global cities.
The workshop was organized by the Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) in the Partnership with the World Resources Institute of India (WRI-INDIA) on “Changing Jalan Delhi”.
Deputy Minister of Manish Sisodia and Public Works Minister Satyenodar Jain was present as the main guest, along with Deputy Chairperson of DDC, Jasmine Shah, CEO of WRI-India o Agarwal and senior government officials.
Jain said the government is committed to redesigning a 540 km high road in Delhi in accordance with the best global practices to make them safe, sustainable, pedestrian and accessible, especially for senior citizens and children.
Sisodia said the Delhi government is currently identified with its social reform in the education and health sector, and is committed to focusing on infrastructure reform and road design with the same strength.
He asked all participants to keep the mind open to learn and intentional for the global experience distributed in workshops.
Shah said all the global cities began their journey in road transformation only 15-20 years ago and have quoted how important political leadership is for transformation.
“Under the leadership of the Head of Minister of Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi government is determined to build world-class roads in the national capital,” Shah said.
Gyengchul Kim, a transportation expert from Seoul South Korea, said that from building flyovers and leg bridges, which are unfair and inaccessible to many people, Seoul has included more pedestrian boxes, pedestrian crossings and paths dedicated to the willingness political.
Ong Eu-Gene, Director of Singapore Tanah Transport Authority, said Singapore has decided to become a “car-lite state” and more dependent on public transportation, together and active.
He distributed Singapore’s main infrastructure initiatives such as building a more integrated transportation center, active mobility network, community room, pedestrian streets and transit priority corridors, and using trains as the backbone of the public transportation system.
Michael Replog, former Deputy Commissioner for Policy, Ministry of Transportation of New York City, emphasizes the need to integrate the processes driven by data in redesigning the road, noting progress and revising the annual priority.
He shared observations from the camera speed program adopted in New York where most vehicles received one ticket violations of traffic did not accept others in one calendar year.
He said the Covid-19 plague then changed the road environment with the appearance of open roads, open restaurants, outdoor learning streets and bicycle network expansion.
Alex Williams, Director of London City Planning, shared the vision of the city “street for all”.
London has focused on increasing the use of bicycles and buses, he said, adding that London’s city planning has made buses more reliable and consistent with 24-hour operation, which has reduced traffic congestion because private motorized vehicles and roads are safer for cyclists and pedestrians foot.
