Panaji: More than 200 personnel in Goa Medical College have been tested positive for Covid-19, greatly affect the function of the country’s main health institutions.
More than 100 of them are doctors and resident consultants, and the number of positive cases in hospitals have doubled in just 2-3 days.
Earlier this week, GMC transferred personnel and resources towards Covid care, and routine operations and OPD services were arrested after a series of Covid cases hit the function of the hospital.
Now, when cases increase at fast speed, the top sources say that hospital functions will be very hampered if the emergency plan is not compiled.
“With every infected person, it must be in home isolation for a minimum of seven days, maybe more in some cases, the GMC must have a disaster management plan,” said the source.
Even when hospitals have reduced their routine services, it is the only place in the state for ordinary people to rush for emergency tertiary care.
“Patients who need emergency tertiary care will suffer if GMC power is reduced due to Covid infection among his staff,” he said.
“Light covid patients can be easily attended by medical officers and managed at other hospitals.
GMC Beds must be provided for the Covid Grave case.” On Sunday, three heads of the GMC Department were infected with Covid and were in isolation of houses.
At present, the majority of Covid patients are treated in the super-special GMC block, while other government hospitals have not recognized Covid patients.
Of the 300 beds in the block, close to 200 was taken on Sunday.
The four government hospitals – two district hospitals and two sub-district hospitals – he said, must begin to recognize Covid patients, because GMC has felt heat with a large number of positive personnel testing.
Shows to a similar situation that is played in other countries, he said some hospitals have reached a state of shutdown, because more than 50% of their staff are positive.
Therefore GMC must be prepared to plan before reaching such a situation.
“With Omicron infectivity so high, it shouldn’t be surprising if more GMC staff test positive for the next few days,” he said.
Quoting the study of the spread of the virus in the state, he said, Covid Hot Spot, which was 31 in number before Christmas, rose to 73 in January 4.
The number is estimated to take pictures until 171 the next few days, he said.
