Gurugram: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has canceled a proposal to build a new sports stadium which was originally planned in the Khatola and later in the sector 9.
The project was announced by the Minister of Manohar Lal Khattar’s head in April 2016.
According to officials, even though the plan was finally He dropped during the ninth authority met with GMDA, which was held last month, the seeds of doubt had been sown at the previous meeting in April last year.
“During the GMDA meeting in April, it has been shown that there might be a need to build additional stadiums in this city since the city’s corporation Gurugram (MCG) has built a stadium in Wazirabad.
Furthermore, the city already has a stadium in the form of a sports complex of Devi Lal and some Private sports institutions and all of this, together, may be enough for residents, “said a senior GMDA official.
During the final authority meeting in December, Chief Executive Officer Sudhir Rajpal has stated that the need for additional stadiums, therefore, examined once again and, given the fact that MCG has built a stadium in Wazirabad, has been decided to drop proposals.
It was in April 2016 that Khattar has announced that the sports stadium will be built in the Bay Khatola.
However, because of the illness of land at the location, in September 2018 he announced that the stadium would be built in sector 9, instead.
In August 2019, this proposal was transferred to GMDA.
At present, the only government facility in Gurugram available for athletes is a sports complex of Devi Lal and Nehru Stadium.
While the former has two international sports stadiums for cricket and soccer, along with volleyball and basketball court, the latter is mainly used as a hockey stadium.
At the same meeting as the GMDA where officials revealed that they had dropped a proposal to build additional stadiums, a proposal to build a sports stadium in Farrukhnagar approved.
