Gurgaon: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will begin using its geographical information system (GIS) to monitor the infrastructural improvements in town.
The visual documents secured via satellite images from the National Remote Sensing Centre are also utilized to track encroachments and illegal structures and officials have said.
According to a senior GMDA officer working in the job, the demand for the project originated from the wild property encroachments in town.
The project was approved by the Haryana chief minister.
“Once we’ve got the data in the machine, we’ll prepare a matrix constituting the urbanisation routines like the spread of growth, its direction and pace,” he told TOI.
“This matrix is going to be shared with all the government departments to comprehend the evolution and encroachments in town so they can invent conducive policies for handling the resources allocation” Giving an instance, the official stated they may use the method to recognize the water bodies that have gone lost from the recent years.
“We are alert to the police worried about any construction within this field that could be prone to flood in the event of heavy rain,” he explained.
The GMDA is working on the acquisition of drones because of the multiple GIS endeavors.
As part of some other GIS job, the development power will soon be putting up weather stations throughout Gurgaon and Faridabad.
TOI had previously noted that the GMDA would soon be putting up a community of 200-250 weather stations throughout the town and Faridabad.
The project, below which station is going to be put up for each 9 square kilometers, was accepted by the leader, officials explained.
“A comprehensive network of weather stations will be installed shortly to maintain precise records of temperatures, wind velocity and rain throughout the afternoon,” another officer said.
