PANAJI: Goa recorded 706 fresh Covid-19 infections,1,711 recoveries, and 22 mortalities, bringing down the active caseload to 10,840 in the last 24 hours.
The recovery rate marginally went up to 91%, while the case positivity rate stood at 19%.
With 22 deaths reported on Wednesday, the tally increased to 2,694.
As many as 16 people died while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College (GMC), two died at the South Goa District Hospital, and three died at different private hospitals.
None of the deceased had been fully vaccinated.
A 62-year-old man from Salcete was brought dead to Hospicio, Margao, and though he had been unwell for seven days, his Covid test was done two days prior to his death.
A 78-year-old man from Agassaim, who had a psychiatric illness, and had tested positive last week, died within 24 hours of hospitalisation.
Five of the deceased were in their forties and another five in their mid-fifties.
An average hospital stay of eight patients who died over the 24 hours, was about three weeks to one month, 15 were in the hospital for less than a week and a few died after ten of admission, revealed the mortality bulletin.
During the day, 125 patients were discharged and 101 hospitalised.
The Margao urban health center with the highest caseload saw its cases dropping to 813.
Health minister Vishwajit Rane in his social media post on Wednesday declared that, at the North Goa district hospital, the first dose of Casirivimab and Imdevimab, an antibody cocktail drug, was administered to an 81-year-old Covid-19 patient, who had multiple comorbidities – diabetes, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease – and a cancer survivor.
“The antibody cocktail drug will benefit and prevent further progression of the disease and reduce mortality,” Rane said.
He said the North Goa district hospital is the first government hospital in the state to do so.
Recently, at a private hospital in South Goa, a 49-year-old patient suffering from asthma and having allergy symptoms was administered an antibody cocktail drug.
