Ponda: Twenty-three suspected cases of dengue fever have been reported in Ponda Taluka.
Dr Kalpana Mahatme, officials nodal disease transmitted by a vector in the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Panaji, has said that Block Ponda do not have an outbreak of dengue fever and that patients suspected of a grudge at five medical centers from areas affected by dengue industrial park Verna.
A total of five community health centers (PHC) – Ponda, USGAO, betki, Shiroda and Marcaim – come under the Block Ponda of the Department of Health Services.
Of the 23 suspected cases, Ponda Urban Health Center (UHC) saw the highest with 12 cases, followed by Shiroda PHC with five cases.
Madkai center, betki and Dharbandora each had two suspected cases.
“Of the 12 suspected cases in Block Ponda, seven work in the industrial area Verna and most likely they are infected there.
Because they live in Ponda, cases have been recorded in Ponda UHC,” said Mahatme.
Ponda Sanitary Officer Manoj Naik said that they had done the driving cleanliness, fogging and anti-larvae spraying in the area to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
The awareness program house-to-house have been taken to prevent the outbreak of disease.
Dr Sunita Redkar, health officials in Shiroda PhC, say they have recorded five such cases.
Three of them work at the Kala Academy, Panaji, one had returned from Pune, Maharashtra, and one is local.
“We took all the necessary precautions and we urge residents to cooperate with us to prevent such diseases.
People need to be careful and not to allow stagnation of water in open containers or empty bottles,” said the health worker.
Meanwhile, a suspected dengue from Shiroda died at Hospicio Hospital, Margao, but not due to dengue fever.
He is a chronic alcoholics with a history of several other diseases, including jaundice, said Redkar.
“We have conducted a test antigen on arrival to Covid-19, but he tested negative.
But, because of her condition continued to deteriorate, we rushed to Hospicio Hospital, but he died while undergoing treatment,” said Redkar.
