Ponda / Old Goa: In an unprecedented situation, all villages along Western Ghats experienced flooding after water from Ghat regions flowed down.
Some villages in Ponda Taluka, including USGAO, Khandperme, Verem-Vaghurme and Volvoi are affected.
At least 25 people from Kiral and Tankwada at USGAO were saved and shifted to safer places by Ponda firefighters after their homes were flooded with flood water.
The area has 48 houses.
Some houses in the Murdi-Khandper area, Volvoi and Veghurme face the same situation, while four houses sank.
MLA and the Minister of Arts and the local culture of Govind Gaude rushed to the area and entertained the local population.
In some areas, office visitors were seen stranded because of several sinking village roads.
The bus traveling from Ponda to Sankhali through USGAO was canceled or diverted through banastarim.
WRD Canal Officer Ankush Gaonkar said the incident had never happened before in the past fifty years.
He said that the village had flooded even though Ponda did not receive rain on Friday.
The water rises continuously until late at night even though the rivers are friendly and the villagers are seen trying to move to a safer location.
In the Valem-Vagurme Panchayat area, it was a second time in the history of the village that rainwater had entered the temple of Anant in Savoi Verem, last time in 1982.
But the scale of destruction was lower than this year.
, said the village elder.
The villagers demanded that the government rehabilitate them.
Water also enters Shantadurga Temple, Vagurme and Gajantlakshmi in Volvoi.
