Goa: ‘Armed with SOP After Nirda, the police still fail to handle sensitive cases’

Panaji: The police are too fast to put aside all other aspects and conclude that the death of the 19-year-old child is because of suicide, said Caroline Collasso, a lawyer who specializes in criminal law.
“They retreated after the general stunned, but it was too late.
The family had gone through a lot of trauma by losing their daughter and the police must be trained to have a sympathy tone and said that they were investigating all aspects,” he said.
After the NIRBHAY case, the law is changed, and the definition of rape is now wider than ordinary penetration.
“There may be a number of other things that the perpetrators can do to him.
Just because they found the whole hymen did not imply that he was not raped.
The police cannot put aside all the other aspects of the first example,” he said.
If the suicide theory will be trusted, it is difficult to digest that the girl’s clothes came out accidentally, he said, adding that the police had to relieve people’s fears.
“The police ridiculous response to this case only worsened the fear of a woman who felt insecure,” Collasso said, adding that if it was death with sinking, the police had to investigate thoroughly whether he was drowning or sinking.
Former Chairman of the State Commission for Women, Advocates Shubhalaxmi rose said there was no proper investigation by the police, who handled the death of young girls with very “relaxed”.
“The family was blamed for giving a wrong statement.
A family can be less educated and traumatized.
They can say something wrong and certain things can happen to them later.
Family statements cannot be considered the truth of the gospel.
Is it suicide or murder , what is needed is a thorough investigation of the dead.
Life cannot be treated as a cheap thing, “he told toi.
Valuable life has been lost.
“He might have been an important person for the country.
Just as we don’t know anything about the Olympic medalist before they win the medal,” he said.
There have been several sops and guidelines after the NIRBHAY case for the police to sensitively handle such problems, said women’s activist Sabina Martins.
“The responsibility of the police personnel in the line does not implement the guidelines, lies in the top brass.
There must be regular training and police direction and instructions must go from top to bottom, if they are serious about crimes against women,” he added.
Former Chairman of the Pramod Women’s Commission Salgaocar told Ti that the police had to swing into the action no faster they received someone’s lost information and especially from a young woman who did not achieve his goal in the state.
“The family must be worried, otherwise they won’t go to the police station.
Tell the family to wait 24 hours in a tourist country with so many people who come every day and many crimes reportedly are incorrect.
I was surprised that the case had not been submitted to the crime branch or Higher officers, “he said.
