Palolem over it with an increase of 3.103% in glass waste while Calangute has an increase in litter of 559%.
This is the finding of a two-phase study by Goa University researchers (GU) and other people to assess the quantum and composition of waste at eight beaches on May 2020 during locking and in January 2021, after easing restrictions.
This survey found an exponential increase in the beach trash.
Some of it might come from the sea or river.
After the coast of Goa became famous because the most inclined, the initiative recently implemented for better coastal management has made a difference, the researchers said.
“Changes in waste density between two surveys (May 2020 and January 2021) the highest for Calangute followed by Baina 281%, Miramar-Caranzalem 234%, Morjim 223% and Velsoo and Colva 134-136%.

“Glass is a big threat to coastal ecosystems and density hiding plastic as a disorder,” Alvarinho Luis said, said scientists and Ncpor.
Rubber showed a large increase of 2.140% on a beautiful Palolem Beach while metal and thermocol showed a decline of more than 70%.
“Local fishermen contributed metals and thermocols in the beach trash and this diminished due to restrictions on fishing activities during locking,” Luis said.
For plastic waste exceeding 2kg per square meter from the 100m transect along the coast selected for samples, Colva Beach received significant shares in increasing tourists to eight million ranked in 2019 first.
Followed by Miramar-Caranzalem, Baina, Siridao and Calangute.
Quantum packaging materials such as thermocols are caught in Velsoo, Siridao, Baina and Colva in garbage more than 100GM per transect.
But on the positive side, the management of cave waste has shown an increase, said Mahender.
“Goa is an interesting goal in Southeast Asia withdrawing 8 million tourists in 2019 and it shows the garbage density on the coast.
But that the country has increased in the last rank in managing litter pollution due to recent initiatives,” he said.
While anthropogenic stressor is a disaster for seawater life, this study strongly emphasizes segregation on sources as the best solution to reduce damage.
“A team consisting of locals, social work groups, students and NGOs can be mobilized as volunteers to monitor coastals and help administration in keeping the coastal clean,” said the study.
Consumption of liquor on the beach has triggered an increase in sinks on the beach in the past recently.
“The implementation of strict beach discipline will further reduce garbage and this in turn save expenses involved for coastal management,” Mahender said.
