Goa can see 10K active cases in mid-January: State epidemiology

Panaji: With Goa threw all the prevention of Covid to the wind and failed to uphold Covid-19 norms for the new year when welcoming the horde of tourists, a small country had been in the middle of the third wave.
In mid-January Goa can have between 5,000 and 10,000 active cases, the Epidemiology of the State Dr.
Ukrarsh Betodkar.
On Sunday, active cases rose to 1,671 and the case of the case of the case was fired to the highest of all time of 10.77%.
“The third wave must begin.
We have seen a big increase over the past 6 days.
Twice the number is higher than the last wave.
Until the beginning of last week, 60 new infections were a big number for us.
Since then, there is a 500% increase in daily infections With more than 300 cases reported every day, “he said.
Apart from a large surge in infection, hospitalization has not started to rise but it can change in the coming days.
“We don’t know how much the peak or when it will come, but if we continue with this trend, we can see about 10,000 active cases in the next 15 days.
Inpatient can increase when we have a full wave with the maximum case, and when people with Comorbidity began to be affected.
That is why we need to take precautions now, “said Dr Betodkar.
The common variant continues to be a delta because only one sample of an international traveler has been positively tested for Omicron after the sequencing of the genome while other samples are tested randomly through indirect methods in Omicron.
Samples sent to the National Center for Science Science (NCCS) for genomequencing also generally arrived weeks later.
Director of Health Services Dr.
Ira Almeida said Omicron had not taken a foothold in Goa.
“This is a delta wave.
It takes a week after the first increase, before hospitalization began to increase,” he said.
“The Delta variant that is common shows a sudden increase in cases because of the meeting and which is why they must be stopped,” said Dr Betodkar.
People must take precautions for the sake of protecting people with comorbidity and becoming quite responsible for not being part of spreading infection.
“Larger meetings, especially those who have less social distance must be avoided,” he said.
Most cases are asymptomatic while simtomatic comes with fever, coughing, sore throat etc.
It is very important for children – 15-18 for whom vaccination starts on Monday, to be vaccinated, he said.
