Panaji: Goa has the potential to emerge as a hub and strategic logistics items and easily damaged cargo which is intended for cave must be transferred through waterways instead of the road, said Head of the Pramod Sawant minister on Friday.
The state government focuses on increasing infrastructure, processes, and strategies in an effort to make a logistics center in Goa, Sawant said in the 7th edition of the CIA conference on logistics.
“I personally feel that we must take advantage of the use of waterways for transportation of internal goods.
I welcome suggestions related to the use of efficient waterways for people transportation and goods,” he said.
“Goa has the potential to appear as a strategic logistics center in West India,” Sawant said added that Goa could also help transport cargo through coastal and inland waterways for South Maharashtra and North Karnataka.
“We recently formed the State Logistics Coordination Committee that will focus on infraria, systems and processes, logistics workers, strategies and policies and coordination for this sector,” he said.
He said that Goa and the Center wanted to make the logistics of the main focus area.
“India’s contribution to world GDP is 25-30% and today we are at 7%.
If we have to reach it near that number again, we must do a lot of work and logistics will be the main driver of growth,” Sawant said.
Minister of Main and Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Prabhu talked about the development of the Railway Infrastructure and Greenfield Airport in Mopa as the main driver of work, economic growth and cargo movement.
Prabhu said that it made sense for Goa to become a logistics center.
“Goa should not lose identity, culture and environment and its logistics will not do that.
For this, Goa needs to unite all building blocks to ensure it happens, it is faster than later,” said Prabhu, which is Summit Sherpa G20 and G7 India, said .
