Panaji: Twice Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vasco Mla Carlos Almeida, who proposed his resignation as MLA, has decided to join the Indian National Congress.
Almeida said that he would join Congress on Wednesday.
Almeida decided on Tuesday past midnight after an extensive consultation with his supporters in Vasco.
“I have decided to join the Congress,” Almeida told Toi.
Almeida accused BJP “systematically completing the Manohar Parrikar loyalist”.
Almeida is the second BJP MLA to resign from Mormugao Taluka, the first is Alina Saldanha, who represents the Kortalim constituency for two terms.
In the election of the 2017 assembly, BJP has won the four seats in Mormugao Taluka.
On November 30, the former independent candidate from Vasco, Krishna ‘Daiji’ Salkar joined BJP, explained that Almeida would be rejected by a party ticket to oppose the upcoming assembly selection.
On Tuesday, Almeida submitted his resignation to the legislative secretary as the speaker of the Goa legislature, Rajesh Pathnekar, was not in school.
The speaker has not received his resignation.
